Rhyming Ideas

Last Friday we met with each kiddo during Fairytale Friday to assess rhyming words.  Below are some ideas that you might want to try at home if your child struggled in this area.

Rhyme Time (video)

Read Dr. Suess books with your child and have them notice the rhyming words in the book.

Recite Nursery Rhymes

The Name Game (song)
WARNING!! - This may not work for all names.  You may want to check your child's name before you try it. :)

October Info

We recently sent home our October Newsletter and Homework.  They were copied back to back on green paper.  Attached to them was a note, on blue paper, about our need for postcards for our Gingerbread unit in December.  Please ask any family or friends that live outside the state of Utah to send a postcard, in your child's name, to your kiddos kindergarten class.  We understand that even with parents and teachers working together to get papers home, they don't always make it.  If your homework is ever misplaced you can simply click on the links below to print off a new copy for yourself.  We also sent home two large math books.  The pages in the books are optional, but we have listed on the homework (in the Sunday column) the pages that go with the concepts discussed in class.

Ideas to teach letters at home

Dance Mat Typing
Just for your information, this is the web site for the typing practice that the students are doing in Computer class.  I know the children are struggling a little in finding the letters on the keyboard.  Maybe if they become more familiar at home with the program, they will feel more comfortable in class.

If your child is still struggling on letters and sounds here are some ideas to help at home.
ABC travel game - while in the car, see how many letters you can find in the street signs.
Letter Flashcards - check the yellow assessment page that will come home on Tuesday and make flashcards for the letters they are still working on.
Letter I Spy in books- while doing your reading homework, have your child look for letters in the books you are reading.
Apps - writing wizard, ABC tracer

September Info

As teachers we appreciate your patients with carpool.  It has been going very well and gets quicker each day.  Please remember not to pull ahead of cars who may be waiting for passengers as this may be a safety hazard for our students.

This week you should have received the September Newsletter.  It is copied on green paper.  If it was misplaced you can copy it from the link below.  Also download and print the sight word flash cards and homework for this month below.

February is already here and still no snow.  We mentioned in our January Newsletter that we would participate in a snow day with the children.  We are still planning this fun day, but are waiting for the snow to go with it.  You should get an email from your child's teacher letting you know that it will be happening.  Keep your fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate.

The February info was sent home already, but if you are in need of a duplicate, please click the links below.

We noticed with the last testing of sight words, some children are struggling with these.  If your child is not fluent in the sight words we give each month, they will struggle with the benchmark reading level.  It is also difficult to write stories or complete weekly dictated sentences.  Please spend some extra time on these to make sure your child has mastered them.

Welcome to 2015!
With all the snow we are getting, please make sure to send your child in a winter coat.  One day this month both teachers will take the kids outside and play in the snow.  It is so much more fun when the kids are dressed warm.

We also set home the January homework on the reverse side of the Newsletter.  It is a green paper
